Quebec has finally sent its new teaching guide to allow teachers to concentrate on the essentials in the subjects.
The Minister of Education finally presented the list of learning that young people must absolutely master this year.
“With absences, distance education, all the adjustments that we had to make, it was impossible to go through the entire program”, explains Nicolas Prévost of the Quebec Federation of School Managers. education.
“We go less far in each of the learning, but the disciplines are all there,” says Josée Scalabrini of the Federation of Education Unions.
Unions, opposition parties and teachers are however unanimous, this guide arrived too late. In addition, several subjects are not the subject of recommendations.
“It was really received by the teachers as an insult. He did it halfway. There are some courses where he didn’t even bother to mention what it is, essential knowledge, ”says Marwah Rizqy, official opposition spokesperson for education.
“The four arts disciplines: plastic arts, music, dance and dramatic arts. He did not do the exercise either for ethics and religious culture or for physical education, ”deplores Nathalie Morel of the Autonomous Federation of Education.
Some establishments and their staff had taken the initiative and prepared a plan adapted to the situation. However, some say we should start thinking about the next school year.
“It will take some thinking work for next year as well. We cannot simply identify the essential knowledge for this year and think that as of next fall, we will be able to return to normal ”, declares the solidarity member Christine Labrie.
The Minister of Education Jean-François Roberge did not wish to comment on the camera, but specifies that all this aims to “reduce the pressure on teachers and reduce anxiety among students in an already difficult context”.
