The Public Chamber of the so-called “LPR” appealed on September 19 to the head of the region, Leonid Pasechnik, with a demand to immediately hold a referendum on joining Russia. Lina Vokalova, Deputy Chairman of the Civic Chamber, addressed Pasechnik.

Vokalova noted that in recent days, “Kyiv nationalists have crossed all red lines”; and expressed confidence that the population of the Lugansk region would fully support the initiative to join Russia, which would secure the territory of the self-proclaimed republic.

The decision to hold a referendum was sent to the head of the “LPR” for consideration and the People's Council.

A couple of hours later, with a similar appeal to the head of the so-called "DNR" Denis Pushilin was also addressed by the Public Chamber of the unrecognized Donetsk Republic. “We want the border of the Russian Federation to lie between us and Ukraine,” – the document says.

The appeals take place against the backdrop of a counter-offensive of the armed forces of Ukraine on the western borders of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

“The occupiers again started talking about” elections without elections “, because the armed forces of Ukraine have driven them into a dead end,” commented the head of the Luhansk region Serhiy Gaidai on the idea of a referendum. In his opinion, the annexation of new Ukrainian territories will allow the Kremlin to start a new round of war, including declaring mobilization.

Chief editor of the Russian state television channel RT Margarita Simonyan commented on these requests in her telegram as “Crimean scenario and all-in”.
