The new PS5 controller has many new and exciting features. But the first players complain about an annoying malfunction.
“DualSense” * – that is the official name of the new PS5 controller. Since the release of Sony’s next-gen console, Playstation fans have been able to extensively try out the new functions for themselves.
The pre-installed “Astro’s Playroom” provides a good insight into all DualSense features.
The adaptive triggers and the extended haptic feedback are very exciting innovations, but the first weaknesses have also become noticeable in the new PS5 controller, which could become a real problem for Sony if they occur with several controllers.
PS5 controller: Players report “drifting” analog sticks
At the Controller–Drift most gamers probably think of the Joy-Cons on the Nintendo Switch. After the hybrid console was released in 2017, the problem started appearing on many controllers.
The analog sticks showed a series of malfunctions in which the console recognized an input, although the control stick was not moved. Now PS5 owners are reporting similar issues with the DualSense.
Since the PS5 came out in November 2020, gamers have reported on it multiple times on social media. On Reddit, a user explains that the drift problem just ten days after receiving his PS5 occurred. He stated that he tried every possible solution: turning off the console, turning bluetooth on and off, resetting the controller, and finally charging it fully overnight – none of that helped.
Another Reddit user has the DualSense–Drift captured on video:

PS5 controller: law firm launches class action lawsuit against Sony
Like the page eurogamer.net are even reported already legal action against Sony initiated.
The law firm Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith, which was already dealing with the Joy-Con drift on the Nintendo Switch, asked all PS5 users concerned to fill out a form online.
The allegation is that Sony deliberately installed components in the controller that would have already caused the drift in the PS4 controller. In addition, the options for repairs are limited and customer service is too cumbersome.
Sony has not yet commented on this issue. PS5 owners can only hope that the drift problem doesn’t become a permanent problem like it does with the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons. (Ök) * tz.de is part of the nationwide Ippen editorial network.
