Colonel of the National Police of Peru (PNP) Harvey Colchado will continue to lead of the PNP Special Team in support of the prosecutorial group led by Marita Barreto, which is investigating figures linked to the government of President Pedro Castillo.

This agreement was reached by the National Prosecutor Patricia Benavides and the Minister of the Interior (Mininter) Willy Huerta, after a meeting held at the headquarters of the Public Ministry , in which the head of the National Police, Luis Vera, also participated.

Sources from the Public Prosecutor's Office told El Comercio that during the meeting aimed at discussing support and coordination between the two institutions, Minister Huerta insisted on changing Colonel Colchado as coordinator of the PNP Special Team and that he would be replaced PNP Colonel Franco Moreno Panta.

However, the sources reported, “The prosecutor was firm on the issue” and reminded Huerta that the PNP Special Team had already been designated by ministerial resolution. And that said authorization had been approved and signed, even by the current head of the National Police, Luis Vera Llerena.

This, despite the fact that in a document issued by the PNP, Vera Llerena now supports the position of the Minister in which he proposed to change Colchado of the coordination.

After that, Huerta Olivas told him that there would be no changes in the PNP Special Team and that Colchado would continue to lead said police group.
