Prosecutor appointed to check Biden's handling of government documents
U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland in announced Thursday the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate President Joe Biden's handling of classified documents.
“Announcing the appointment of Robert Goore as a special counsel in accordance with the internal procedures of the US Department of Justice that govern this matter,” said Garland at a briefing, adding that the appointment was communicated to the Speakers of both houses of Congress.
Robert Gur was a former prosecutor in Maryland.
Special prosecutors are appointed to investigate politically sensitive issues and have specific degree of independence in their actions, in particular, they have the authority to independently announce criminal charges.
