Several websites of Italian ministries and institutions were hit by a cyberattack on Saturday, claimed by the pro-Russian hacker group Noname057(16).
This was reported by ANSA.
The hackers attacked the websites of the ministries of foreign affairs, infrastructure and transport, stock market regulator Consob, the Carabinieri, the Italian Navy and the Italian Air Force. The websites of public transport companies such as Atac in Rome, Amat in Palermo and Amt in Genoa were also attacked. These same sites were already subject to cyberattacks by a hacker group two weeks ago.
It is noted that the DDoS attack caused a temporary suspension of services. Italy's national cybersecurity agency said it was supporting measures to restore systems and check security gaps.
Announcing the attacks on Italian ministries and institutions, the hackers, who are already known for other similar attacks and spreading Russian views, criticized Prime Minister Giorgia Maloni for supporting Ukraine.
«Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Maloni confirmed her full and unwavering support for Ukraine at a meeting with (Ukrainian President – ed.) Volodymyr Zelensky during his visit to Rome. According to Maloni, Italy will help Ukraine defend its interests and seek a just and lasting peace. The talks lasted about an hour and were aimed at strengthening Kyiv's position. “Italy should start by helping itself and, above all, its cybersecurity,” the hackers said in their Telegram channel.
