The turn of January and February is the time when gardeners can start preparing for the upcoming spring.

Preparing for spring in the garden is just around the corner. Spray this mixture on your future lawn to prevent weeds from growing.

Once the frosts have passed, it is worth removing the winter covers of the plants, which will allow them to calmly return to growth. It is also the perfect time to think about the first fertilization of the season.

Lawn care

The end of winter is also the time for the first lawn care treatments. It is worth spraying it with a special mixture that will help eliminate weed spores, while also being safe for the grass itself. Weeds that appear on the lawn and in flower beds are a real nuisance, as they compete for space and resources with other plants.

Early care activities will help avoid brown patches of bare soil and ensure healthy lawn growth. This procedure should be performed immediately after the last frosts have passed to effectively protect the lawn from unwanted weeds.

Winter is a time when many people forget about their lawns, considering them dead and undemanding. Nothing could be further from the truth! Although lawns do not require intensive care in winter, it is worth knowing how to care for them so that they can once again delight with their green color in spring.

Avoid walking in the snow

One of the most important recommendations from gardeners is to avoid walking on a lawn covered in snow. Why? Such movement can lead to damage to the delicate roots of the grass and create permanent depressions. Snow acts as insulation, but excessive pressure on the surface can cause the plant to rot under the layer of ice.

Spring lawn renewal

With the first rays of spring sun, it's time for specific actions. The key is to take care of watering and aerating the lawn. Aeration helps to provide better air access to the roots, which promotes their healthy growth.

Weed control

Early spring is also a great time to tackle weeds. First, hand-pull large clumps of these unwanted plants. This is an effective way to quickly get rid of the problem. If the weeds are deeply entrenched, you can consider mechanical removal – this will allow you to quickly clean up the area.

Soil mulching

The next step is soil mulching, which involves covering the lawn with organic or inorganic materials. This will make the soil less prone to drying out and at the same time provide the plants with the nutrients they need.

How to mulch? Prepare the cardboard and cut it into smaller pieces. Spread them evenly on the lawn, then sprinkle with compost or tree bark.

Natural methods of weed control

Before the growing season begins, you can also use a natural spray of vinegar and water as a weed killer. Vinegar is a known weed killer, but remember – before you spray the entire lawn, do a test! A strong concentration of vinegar can be harmful to the grass itself.

For best results, use vinegar with a concentration above 11%. A lower concentration will be sufficient for young weeds; however, larger specimens will require a higher concentration – even above 20%. In a spray bottle, mix vinegar with a small amount of dishwashing liquid to better adhere to the leaves of the weeds.
