Power supply restrictions in Ukraine may last until August-September

The power cut  for Ukrainians, which began on May 14, may last until August-September. In winter, there will be a deficit in the energy system even in warm weather.

This was stated by the adviser to the Prime Minister and a member of the supervisory board of Ukrenergo. Yuriy Boyko at a press conference at the Ukraine Media Center.

He explained that in August-September nuclear generation will come out of the active phase of repairs, and there will still be a large amount of solar generation in the power system. Also, the load on the power system will decrease due to the still warm, but no longer hot weather.

If we talk about May, then these restrictions could have started a little later, if the weather was not so cold, — the Prime Minister's adviser believes.

However, with the decrease in temperature, Ukrainians began to actively use heating devices, which led to a deficit in the energy system, even taking into account the active import of electricity. In order to keep the power system in a balanced state and avoid accidents, dispatchers were forced to turn off consumers.

According to Boyk, the winter will be "irreversibly difficult", and there is no chance to fully restore the generation destroyed in two months. It will not be possible to avoid a shortage of electricity in winter even in warm weather.
