Ubisoft announced Friday the postponement to “a later date” of the release of the “remake” of one of its most famous games, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, scheduled for March 18.
“We have made the decision to postpone the release of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake to a later date. This additional development time will allow our teams to deliver a remake that is as innovative as it is faithful to the original work ”, indicated the main French video game publisher on Friday in a message to the gaming community.
The publisher reports “a lot of feedback” from players whose “passion and support motivate our teams to achieve the best possible game. We understand that this news can be greeted with surprise and we will continue to keep you informed of the progress of this project ”, adds Ubisoft.
The game’s release, initially scheduled for January 21, had already been postponed to March 18.
Prince of Persia is an action game series launched in 1989. In the initial version of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, released in 2003, the player plays the Prince of Persia, in search of a magic dagger.
“This is not good news, but it was not Ubisoft’s biggest title either, and the quality of its catalog will allow it to digest” this postponement in terms of financial impact. “And in the current context of Covid, many games are out of step,” said Midcap Partners analyst Charles-Louis Planade, interviewed by AFP.
