Pope Francis called on the world community to write off the debts of the poorest countries due to COVID-19. The economies of these countries have suffered huge losses, we are also talking about health and social crises.
The Pontiff, addressing the world community, explained the situation. We are talking about accounting for the significant debt obligations of the most underdeveloped countries. Due to the spread of coronavirus infection, these states have to take extreme measures in terms of medical and sanitary control, increasing pressure in the social sphere through the introduction of quarantine and mandatory self-isolation. It is necessary to take into account, inter alia, the presence of crisis situations in the economic sphere.
Pope Francis also addressed the world community, recalling the history of the exploitation of the south of the planet, which created a huge ecological debt. The latter is caused by too active extraction of resources in the form of minerals and the subsequent extensive use of the natural space of the named region for the processing of all kinds of waste.
