A French Navy aircraft conducted surveillance over the Baltic Sea. The crew was tracking Russian ships.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Politico.
Aboard the Baltic Sea, the crew of the French Atlantique Atl2 aircraft spotted a Russian warship.
One of the aircraft operators, who was watching the numerous screens, noted that the ship was definitely not part of NATO forces.
According to the publication, it was indeed a Russian warship – a Neustrashimy-class frigate returning from the Mediterranean Sea.
“Our mission is to fly over the Baltic Sea to show that “We are there to reassure neighboring countries, but also to find out what is happening and gather intelligence… The Baltic Sea is not a Russian reserve, it is a NATO sea,” said one of the crew operators.
It is known that the Baltic is of crucial importance for both NATO and Russia. The publication noted that similar clashes are increasingly occurring over the Baltic Sea, where NATO patrols have been intensified since the start of the conflict in Ukraine in 2022.
Scientist at the Notre Europe Institute Cyril Bret emphasized that this area has become a “critical area of direct contact with Russia” in the air, at sea, under water and in cyberspace.
