Polish security services reported on Wednesday, November 13, that they arrested a Belarusian citizen suspected of attempting to set fire to a building in Gdansk. He reportedly belonged to a sabotage group working for foreign countries.

In recent months, several people (with different citizenships) have been arrested or convicted in Poland for sabotage and espionage for Russia, reports  Associated Press.

Poland is one of the main countries through which military aid is sent to Ukraine.

Poland's Internal Security Agency (ABW) reported that on November 6, its officers “arrested a Belarusian in Warsaw suspected of attempting to set fire to a facility in Gdansk.”

If convicted, the suspect faces life in prison.

“This is another arrest as part of the investigation into the activities of an organized criminal group that carried out acts of sabotage, in particular arson, on behalf of foreign intelligence services,” the statement explained.

“During the ABW operation, items were seized that could have been used in other acts of sabotage,” the document goes on to say.

BAGNET recalls that last month, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said he had ordered the closure of the Russian consulate in Poznan due to alleged “attempts at sabotage” by Moscow on Polish territory.

“We demand an end to the hybrid war against Poland and its allies,” Sikorski said at the time.
