Winnipeg police say three people died and two others were injured on Langside Street early Sunday morning.

According to Constable Jason Michalyshen, members of the General Patrol responded to a call indicating that several people had been injured on Langside Street at approximately 4 a.m.

Upon arriving at the scene, the police noticed that five people had been hit by bullets.

A man and woman were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police officers also discovered two men and a woman who were injured and transported them to hospital.

However, one men succumbed to his injuries en route.

The other two victims remain in critical condition in hospital.

At least five police cars were seen near the Langside Grocery restaurant around 9 h.

The Homicide Unit is leading the investigation. Police are attempting to confirm the identities of the victims before contacting their next of kin.

The Winnipeg Police Service says forensic services will be on call the crime scene because of the seriousness of the situation.

Jason Michalyshen says police do not know the number of suspects in this case.< /p>
