The police operation in Calgary, in the Penbrooke Meadows neighborhood, began Thursday, March 14, 2024, after a man fired more than 100 shots aimed at officers who were planning to execute a search warrant.

The police operation, which lasted 30 hours in east Calgary, concluded with the death last night of the armed man, who had barricaded himself in a residence in the Penbrooke Meadows neighborhood.
Thursday afternoon, officers attended a residence to execute a search warrant regarding a firearms investigation.
According to them, the man barricaded himself in the residence then fired more than 100 shots in their direction, without injuring anyone.
Efforts to negotiate a peaceful end ended around 8:30 p.m. Friday. Police say the situation is escalating, without giving further details.
Officers from the Calgary Police Tactical Team and officers from the RCMP Emergency Response Team used their service weapons during the operation. The man was later pronounced dead at the scene. No further information has been communicated.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has been contacted to investigate. During the midnight press conference, Police Chief Mark Neufeld called the conclusion of the police operation unfortunate.
He says the officers used several tactics and resources during the situation, including intermittent negotiations with the individual for more than 30 hours. He adds that the safety of the community was their main concern.
