Subarctic penguins have started actively to “steal” pebbles from their relatives. Polar scientists say that this is a typical behavior of birds when they are looking for materials to build nests for their offspring.
The video was published by the National Antarctic Science Center of Ukraine on Facebook.
According to polar explorers, penguins regularly steal pebbles because they are necessary for building a nest. Due to the shortage of material, the birds even come into fights.
Each year it becomes more and more difficult to get it, because the number of penguins on Galindez is increasing, but the number of stones is not. So, instead of looking for “building material” elsewhere, clever birds will pick it up from their neighbors. Anna Soiniy, a participant of the 29th UAE, managed to capture just such a moment on video, the scientists explained.

However, the thief decided not to stop until he received nuts from the “owner” from the uninvited guest.
Scientists point to the behavior of other penguins who witnessed the “crime”. They calmly observe what is happening, because their “houses” were not damaged by the thief's actions.
