Poland intends to receive its first M1A2 Abrams SEP V3 tanks from the United States by the end of this year, significantly speeding up the schedule supplies, originally set for 2025.
This upgrade, recently confirmed by General Dynamics Land Systems (GDLS), marks an important milestone in Poland's military modernization. These sea-borne tanks are expected to arrive in Poland within a few weeks, although GDLS has not disclosed specific delivery dates and the number of units being shipped, citing security concerns.
Poland ordered 250 US M1A2 SEP V3 Abrams tanks in 2022 under a contract worth $4.75 billion. The order also includes 26 M88A2 HERCULES recovery vehicles and 17 M1110 JAB bridge-builders. In addition, GDLS confirmed that 116 Polish M1A1 Abrams tanks previously acquired will be upgraded to the SEP V3 standard, bringing the entire Abrams fleet up to date.

It combines advanced systems that significantly increase combat effectiveness, survivability and logistics efficiency. Among these achievements — an improved fire control system and an upgraded 120mm gun capable of handling the new Advanced Multi-Aim Projectile (AMP). These munitions allow operators to switch between fire modes, increasing combat flexibility and enhancing the V3's capabilities to engage a variety of targets from infantry positions to protected vehicles.
The M1A2 SEP V3 features the latest armor enhancements to counter kinetic and explosive threats. It includes reactive and passive layers of armor and supports the integration of active protection systems (APS) designed to intercept incoming projectiles. In addition, the SEP V3 introduces an auxiliary power unit (APU) for better power management that provides power to essential systems without starting the main engine, reducing both the heat and acoustic signatures of the tank.
The M1A2 SEP V3 also offers advanced communications and networking capabilities, facilitating real-time data sharing with Army battlefield management systems and improving situational awareness.
