Deputy Prime Minister of Poland Krzysztof Gawkowski denied assumptions about his country’s possible involvement in sabotage on the Nord Stream 1 gas pipelines and “Nord Stream 2” in September 2022.
“Poland did not participate in anything (like this). We make it clear: this is – lie", – This is how Gavkowski answered a question from the Polsat News TV channel, reports Reuters.
Gavkowski’s words came after the former head of German intelligence August Hanning (he held this post from 1998 to 2005) accused Poland of collaborating with Ukraine in organizing sabotage.
"It seems that it was a Ukrainian team, judging by the results of the investigation", – Hanning said in an interview with Die Welt.
“It is quite obvious that the Polish authorities were involved,” he continued, calling on Germany to demand compensation from Kyiv and Warsaw.
“I think this is Russian disinformation coming from German politicians,” Gawkowski said of Hanning's statements.
“They (the people making such statements) are acting under Moscow's influence or know that this will lead to disagreements between NATO member states,” added the Polish minister.
On the eve of the statement about Kyiv's involvement in the sabotage, Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, denied.
“Such an act can only be carried out with extensive technical and financial resources… and who had all of this at the time of the explosions? Only Russia,” he said in written comments published on Thursday for the Reuters agency.
