Poland extended the ban on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products after September 15 September, noted Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
«The government protects Polish farmers! We will not open borders for Ukrainian grain! The embargo remains!», – he wrote.
At the same time, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal emphasized that "Ukraine, despite the war and the blockade of ports by Russia, complies with its obligations under the Association Agreement with the EU and under the law of the World Trade Organization" .
«We did not and do not intend to harm Polish farmers. We greatly appreciate the support from the Polish people and Polish families! But in case of violation of trade law in the interests of pre-election political populism, Ukraine will be forced to turn to World Trade Organization arbitration for compensation for damages for violation of GATT (General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade – ed.)», – he wrote.
Since May 2, the European Commission has banned the supply of four types of agricultural products: wheat, corn, rapeseed and sunflower seeds – from Ukraine to five countries – Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. The restrictive measures were to last until June 5. Later, they were extended until September 15.
On August 26, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on the statement of the Minister of Agriculture of Poland about the intentions of this and several other countries to extend the ban on the import of grain from Ukraine until the end of 2023.
In addition to Poland, we are talking about Hungary, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Romania.
"We consider it categorically unacceptable to continue trade restrictions on the import of agricultural products of Ukraine after the ban of the European Commission expires on September 15", – stated in the press service.
