Pokémon GO: This idea from Niantic deemed malicious by players

Since 2016, Pokémon GO has been motivating players to touch grass by making Pokémon appear all around them thanks to augmented reality. A phenomenon that has turned the daily lives of the general public upside down, before the hype died down and the game stabilized around a large community of loyal fans. Since then, Pokémon GO has been updated regularly. Unfortunately, some of Niantic's decisions have not gone down well with players.

A practice frowned upon by Pokémon GO players>

Pokémon GO playersare not happy, and they are making it known. As is often the case, these aggrieved players have shared their discontent on social media, particularly on Reddit. In a post that has garnered several thousand likes, one player believes that “Niantic's new predatory tactic is malicious and indefensible“. This “tactic”, yet another attempt by Niantic to promote microtransactions, appears at the end of a Dynamax fight.

Under the rewards screen, it is now possible to double the amount. The only downside is that the operation costs 200 PokéPieces. But rather than displaying the full rewards offered by this purchase, Niantic has chosen to place a nicely wrapped gift underneath that reads “and more!”, implying that there is more to be had than expected. And to see the rewards concerned, you should click on the spend button once.

The player only has to click once to pay, an incentive to spend from Niantic that has made many players jump. A lack of transparency that players criticize, especially since many of them saw it as the beginnings of the integration of lootboxes, these microtransactions with random rewards that Europe has been waging war on for several years now. This practice is all the more questionable since players, possibly young ones, could accidentally press this button and thus spend their hard-earned currency.

Wasting PokéCoins could thus encourage players to switch to the cash register, for a practice that could simply be corrected by displaying the rewards in their entirety. An initiative that follows the arrival of Dynamax raids in Pokémon GO, with a game that could welcome more practices of the kind over the course of its updates.
