PlayStation is working on a new VR helmet

Sony continues to work hard on new technologies for its VR devices, despite the relatively low sales of the PlayStation VR2.

A recently published patent points to a new interchangeable lens feature for VR- helmets, which could hint at research development on a fresh headset internally.

This major improvement requires hardware not supported by the current PlayStation VR2 helmet, which in turn raises interest in possible new models.< /p>

PlayStation VR2, launched in February 2023, faced setbacks at launch: a high price of $549 and a limited number of games for the device led to weak sales.

In March 2024, with’ there were reports that Sony had suspended production of the helmet due to lack of demand. However, the VR headset received a second lease of life thanks to discounts and the release of an adapter for use with a PC.
