A petition to legalize LGBT marriages in Ukraine has collected the required 25,000 signatures

The petition was registered on the website of the Office of the President of Ukraine on June 3rd. The minimum number of Ukrainians required for consideration – 25 thousand – supported her on July 9.

"Now every day could be the last. Let people of the same sex have the opportunity to start a family and have a confirming official document. They need the same rights as traditional couples"— wrote the author of the petition.

Same-sex couples in Ukraine do not legally have the right to marry, cannot jointly own property, inherit the property of a partner or partner, and raise children together. In the event of the death of one of the partners, the other cannot take custody of his minor children, since he is not a direct relative of the deceased.

The likelihood of Ukraine's approaching legalization of same-sex marriages has long been one of the main arguments among opponents of the ratification of the Istanbul Convention, although in fact these two points are unrelated.

Several draft laws on civil partnership have already been prepared previously, but they have not been registered.

Ukrainian media "NV" published on her YouTube channel an interview with a Ukrainian gay – “I want my partner to bury me if I'm over 200” – Alexander Zhugan shared in an interview.
