Although since last Monday the world of tennis has already set its sights on New York for the start of the US Open, the last Grand Slam of the year, the Junior modality (Under 18) of the tournament will start today with three Peruvians in action
Despite the defeat of Juan Pablo Varillas in the first round of qualifying for the main draw of the tournament, the Peruvian participation in Flushing Meadows will increase strongly this week.
Gonzalo Bueno, Ignacio Buse, Gianluca Ballotta and Lucciana Pérez will be the national representatives in the U.S. Junior Open. The four boys will be accompanied by Rodrigo Sánchez, who is the captain assigned by the Peruvian Tennis Federation to train the tennis players in New York.
In the case of the boys, it will be the last opportunity they will have to play a Grand Slam tournament at the Junior level, since the three were born in 2004 and next year they will no longer be able to play the ITF junior circuit. Lucciana Pérez, who will be the only national representative of the women's team, will still have the option to continue competing at the Junior level all next year.
Gonzalo Bueno debuts against Jelani Sarr (11:30 a.m.). 'Gonza', has been exciting tennis fans after his participation in the Lima Challenger where he reached the semifinals just two weeks ago, he will try to improve his record from last year where he could not overcome the second round. Let's remember that the national tennis player reached the top 5 in the world at Junior level this year.
For his part, he is also excited about what Ignacio Buse can do -he would play tomorrow-, who this year not only managed to get into the top eight in the youth ranking, but also qualified for his first professional semifinal at the ITF M15 in Cancun before traveling to New York.

In the case of Gianluca Ballotta, it will be his first appearance in a Grand Slam main draw and he debuts against second-seeded Gilles Bailly (10 a.m.). In any case, the three titles he won this year at the Junior level are enough to believe that he can hit the tournament.
Finally, Lucciana Pérez goes against the first classified, Sofía Costoulas (11:30 a.m.). The Peruvian was present this year at Roland Garros and Wimbledon Junior and will try to win her first Grand Slam singles match and, from there, advance as much as possible.
Alianza Lima vs. Universitario will meet this Sunday, September 4, for the tenth day of the Closing Tournament.
