Perplexity: An AI like no other that wants to shake up search engines

Artificial intelligence has radically redefined the online search market. Perplexity, a bold startup founded by Aravind Srinivas, stands out from its competitors with a search engine that aims to provide direct, precise and conversational answers. But can it compete with Google, the undisputed king of search? ?

Not all AI models work exactly like ChatGPT, which captures attention. Perplexity, launched by Aravind Srinivas, dares to challenge Google with a radically different approach. While Google piles up links and pages to analyze, Perplexity offers direct answers in the form of conversations, while listing the sources it used to arrive at this result. No need to sort through results, the user gets the information immediately. A more fluid vision, but at what price ? Because, by offering a raw answer, the engine obviously deprives the Internet user of the richness and nuances of an in-depth search, as long as the latter does not choose to go further themselves.

But Perplexity is not just a faster alternative. This engine stands out for its ability to unearth unique information, such as that from Twitter, now X, which Google prefers to ignore. An undeniable asset for those looking for current events.

As reported by Siècle Digital, it remains to be seen whether the model will be able to remain economically stable. For now, its low-intrusive ads placed early in the user journey seem to have a relatively low impact in a digital world where immediate conversion is crucial. Perplexity, while not rivaling Google Ads in terms of sophistication, is trying to capture attention before the consumer is ready to buy. And its challenge lies in the upcoming launch of “Shop Like a Pro,” which will allow users to buy without leaving the platform.

With some 15 million users, Perplexity has successfully entered the technology scene, but its future in the face of Google and other titans of the sector remains uncertain.
