On Monday, November 4, the Pentagon said there were at least 10,000 North Korean troops in Russia's Kursk region, but could not confirm reports that they were involved in combat.

Pentagon spokesman Maj. Gen. Patrick Ryder said there was reason to believe that North Korean troops were providing combat or combat support, Voice of America reports.

“We believe that there are currently Not Less Than 10,000 North Korean Troops – Ryder said. –We recognize that as we continue to assess the DPRK presence on the ground, those numbers may increase somewhat in terms of the total number of DPRK troops in Russia,”.

The major general also confirmed that the Pentagon has “seen press reports” of North Korean troops participating in combat operations, but “cannot confirm them at this time.”

He added that there are between 11,000 and 12,000 North Korean troops in Russia in total.

”I don't know if you can call it a wave, but based on those numbers, we think the total number of DPRK troops in Russia could be closer to 11,000 to 12,000, with around 10,000 – at least 10,000 – “are in the Kursk region right now,” Ryder said.

The Pentagon spokesman also noted that his department expects these troops to soon provide “some kind of combat action or combat support.” He also noted that all North Korean troops are being issued Russian uniforms and Russian weapons.
