The President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo , regretted that the Congresshas not authorized his trip to Colombia to attend the investiture of Gustavo Petro as president of this country and described that fact as “unusual and arrogant”.

Through his official Twitter account, the Head of State assured that Parliament's decision< /b>, approved this Thursday, “undermines democratic ties” with Colombia.

“From the Executive we have always respected the independence of the powers of the State. I regret that, in an unusual and arrogant way, Congress prevents me from attending an international ceremonial event. This fact undermines the democratic ties with the sister Republic of Colombia, he wrote on the social network.

Perú Libre pronounces< /b>

The caucus Perú Libre also spoke about the decision and considered that “it reflects the desire to continue with the polarization and instability” in the country.

Through a statement, he rejected the attitude of the majority of Parliament and said that the itself “damages the governance of the country”and the possibility of strengthening bilateral relations with Colombia.

“The Peru Libre caucus rejects the attitude of the majority congresswoman who denied the president's travel request for the presidential change of command in Colombia”, he indicated.

“In recent decades, a decision in these terms had not been seen, which reflects the desire to continue with the polarization and instability that only damages the country's governability and the possibility of strengthening relations with a brother country, in the midst of of an international crisis scenario”, he added.

As recalled, the Plenary Session of the Congress of the Republic refused to authorize President Pedro Castillo to travel to the city of Bogotá, Colombia, to participate in the presidential change of command that will take place on August 7.

With 42 votes in favor, 67 in against and 5 abstentions the national representation rejected the draft legislative resolution sent by the Executive Power for the authorization of the president's trip.

During the debate, congressmen from various benches were against giving this permission to the head of state due to the questions and investigations being carried out against him for the alleged commission of various crimes.
