Most of the Russian troops that retreated from the Kharkov region crossed the border and are on Russian territory. This was reported by  CNN , which released a statement by a senior Pentagon official made during a briefing on September 12.

A representative of the US Department of Defense noted that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are making progress in the fight for the liberation and return of lands in the south and east of Ukraine.

"Near Kharkov, according to our data, the Russian forces mostly ceded their territorial gains to the Ukrainians and retreated to the north and east. Many of them crossed the border from Russia,”– he said.

Thus, the official refuted the assertion of Russian propaganda that the withdrawal of the occupiers from the Kharkiv region was planned and intended to strengthen the group in the Donbass .

Russia has concentrated in the Donetsk region

According to a Pentagon spokesman, Russia has concentrated on the front from Seversk to Bakhmut in the Donetsk region.

< p>"Bakhmut continues to be the center where Russian forces are trying to gain ground. We continue to observe the intensive use of artillery and airstrikes,” – the Pentagon official emphasized.

He added that in the Kherson region there are “deliberate and verified operations by the Ukrainians, which provide for certain moderate forward movement".
