Oscar-winning director Michel Hazanavicius (The Artist) is preparing his first feature-length animation project, The Most Expensive Commodity. The cartoon will be made in classic 2D animation. It is reported by Variety. Recall that on television they will delicately talk to children about the war through fairy tales and cartoons.
The Most Precious of Cargos
The Most Precious of Cargos is based on an adaptation of the French novel of the same name writer Jean-Claude Grumberg. He also writes the script together with Hazanavicius. The music for the film was written by Alexandre Desplat (“The Shape of Water”), and the roles were voiced by Gerard Depardieu, Dominique Blanc and Jean-Louis Trintignant, who died on June 17.
The book takes place during the Second World War. A poor lumberjack and his wife find a baby that has fallen from a passing train. The couple has no children, and they take the child to themselves. The woodcutter and his wife do not know that the train from which the baby fell was on its way to the Auschwitz concentration camp.
The Annecy International Animation Festival showed storyboards made by Hazanavicius and a film shot in two weeks for animators to better illustrate the director's idea.
The premiere of the cartoon is scheduled for 2024.
