Operator of Georgian TV channel dies after being beaten by LGBT opponents

TV Pirveli operator Alexander Lashkarava died in his apartment after being beaten by opponents of the Tbilisi gay pride parade on July 5, TASS reports, citing a statement from the channel.

“The operator of TV Pirveli, who became a victim of violence at the rally, was found dead. Alexandra Lashkarava was found dead in her own house by his mother. Forensic experts are working on the spot, ”the company said.

As the agency notes, Lashkarava was in the hospital for several days after the beating, he was discharged after he recovered.

On July 5, a rally of representatives of the Georgian LGBT community was supposed to take place in Tbilisi, but the organizers were forced to cancel it due to the aggressive actions of opponents of the gay pride parade. After that, LGBT opponents went to the parliament building, where they began to attack journalists.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, adding that the republic’s Interior Ministry has already begun an investigation into the circumstances of the operator’s death.
