Operator "Kyivstar" was able to improve 4G speed thanks to radio frequency testing

Throughout the year, “Kyivstar” is conducting testing on the redistribution of the 2100 MHz radio frequency spectrum throughout Ukraine. These frequencies were previously used for 3G and are now being reconfigured for 4G. As part of this project, outdated 3G technology becomes temporarily unavailable. Such tests have already been conducted in 17 cities of Ukraine and gave unexpected results – a significant increase in the speed of 4G.

Thanks to the fact that the radio frequency was not loaded by slow 3G, according to internal indicators of “Kyivstar”, the speed of 4G mobile Internet increased by 62% on average. For example, the speed of 4G in Sumy increased by 63%, in Kolomyia by 42%, in Lutsk by 46%, in Nizhyn by 64%.

This multi-year project is of great importance for the entire field of electronic communications, because it not only improves the customer experience, but also prepares the network for the launch of 5G technology in Ukraine. And it is possible to realize this, including by freeing frequencies from outdated technologies, such as 3G.

The trend of overusing 3G frequencies in favor of 4G has been observed in the world for a long time. In particular, 56% of European mobile operators have already gotten rid of 3G, another 42% will do so by 2025. Kyivstar is currently at the stage of testing and communication with subscribers regarding the transition to 4G. Currently, such subscribers are about 6% of the entire client base. Therefore, the company urges subscribers who have not yet switched to 4G technology to enable it on their phones. Detailed instructions on how to do this are here. The company plans to complete testing by the end of next year. This should improve the quality of 4G Internet for “Kyivstar” users throughout the country.
