According to Nikkei, OpenAI, the developer of the popular chatbot ChatGPT, is planning to create a «terminal» based on generative artificial intelligence, which may become the successor to smartphones. This was told to journalists by the head of the company Sam Altman.
What is known about the new product
At the moment, there is no detailed information about the «terminal» OpenAI, except for general plans for the development of such a device. Recently, we watched the work of the OpenAI Operator AI agent – a virtual assistant that can perform various actions on the Internet instead of the user. It can be assumed that the company seeks to create a gadget that will always be there and is able to respond to any request or command of its owner.
Last year, several similar AI devices appeared, including the Humane AI Pin and Rabbit R1. They were also positioned as an alternative to traditional smartphones, but both projects suffered both technical and commercial failures.
At the moment, there are no details about the design, form factor or release date of the OpenAI device, and it cannot be ruled out that it may never appear on the market.
