OpenAI recently launched testing of a new search engine that could literally put an end to the existence of Google Search. But it is not going to stop there, because, according to media reports, another product is on the way, which could be buried by another business of the corporation.
OpenAI is rapidly expanding and exploring new areas to gain a foothold in the market. Apparently, it aims to create an entire ecosystem of products powered by AI. This time, it’s about a browser that can challenge Chrome and end its dominance in the industry, The Information reports.
It’s very difficult to say what to expect right now, since we don’t yet have browsers specifically designed for AI. Services like Opera and Edge have already built in their own or third-party models, but these are just buttons that give access to a chatbot in a pop-up window. Meanwhile, Google is working on full-fledged integration of Gemini at the feature level.
But whether Google will be able to finish it in time is unknown, as information has recently been confirmed that the US government wants to force the corporation to sell the Chrome browser and curtail Gemini’s access to information in order to limit the company’s monopoly. If the service is sold, companies will also be banned from returning to the browser market for a certain period of time, so OpenAI will receive a huge gift. It is worth noting that some analysts have already suggested that OpenAI may buy Chrome. This would give it the opportunity not to start from scratch, but only to add its own new features to the finished program.
Be that as it may, it is known that OpenAI is in talks with website and application developers, including Eventbrite, Redfin, Priceline and Conde Nast, about its future products and even joint product prototypes. The details of these negotiations are unknown – whether these companies will develop something for OpenAI, or whether the company will attract some already existing developments.
