Spanish police officers have arrested one of Europe's most wanted criminals, accused of drug trafficking. This was reported by the Kingdom's Interior Ministry, writes El Pais.

“The fugitive, along with his family members and close friends, headed a criminal organization and had three arrest warrants issued by the Belgian authorities,” the publication says.

The Interior Ministry has not named the man. It is known that he is from Albania. In Belgium, he was sentenced to 29 years in prison on 13 counts, the department said. From 2014 to 2018, the fugitive headed a criminal organization engaged in the cultivation and trade of cannabis. He earned more than $4 million from illegal activities, the police added.

Spanish police began searching for the man in January 2023. They cooperated with Belgian government officials. The fugitive was detained on September 12, 2024, in Madrid. He is currently in the National Court of Spain.
