A 41-year-old man has died from his injuries while another person is in stable condition in hospital following Friday's stabbing in The Pas in northern Manitoba, says the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in an update posted on its social networks on Sunday.

According to the RCMP, a 16-year-old was arrested for second-degree murder, while a 15-year-old girl was arrested for manslaughter.

Police say a warrant is outstanding for a 33-year-old man in connection with the manslaughter charge.

< p class="StyledBodyHtmlParagraph-sc-48221190-4 hnvfyV">Last weekend, the RCMP said in a news release that officers responded to Edwards Avenue near 3rd Street West shortly before 4 p.m. Friday, after being informed that a stabbing attack had taken place.

The Mayor of The Pas, Andre Murphy, made state of the nervousness of the people in his community after this tragedy.

People are nervous, he said on Saturday.

Mr. Murphy believes this incident highlights the needs for public safety, mental health care and substance abuse support in his community.

Northern Manitoba really needs these supports closer to home, he maintains.
