The working group that directs the Congressman Fredy Díaz Monago (Alliance for Progress) gave the green light to the proposed schedule with6 votes in favour, one against and 2 abstentions.

Thus, the step-by-step selection process for suitable candidates for the election of the new Ombudsman is as follows:

  • Friday, July 1: publication of guidelines and schedule in three newspapers with national circulation, on the website of the Special Commission and the Congress of the Republic.
  • From Monday, July 4 to Wednesday, July 6: the parliamentary groups will present their invited candidates (acceptance of invitation, simple affidavit and resume). Proposals can be made in person or virtually through the mail of the Special Commission: [email protected]
  • Thursday, July 7: study, by each head of the special commission, of the resumes, Comptroller's reports made to the sworn statements submitted by each applicant for a suitable candidate, and other documents.
  • Friday, July 8 : Publication of the resumes of each eligible candidate in three newspapers with national circulation, on the website of the Special Commission and of the Congress of the Republic.
  • Monday 11 and Tuesday, July 12:presentation of cross-outs accompanied by documentary evidence and duly substantiated complaints, in person or virtually (mail from the Special Commission) during business hours (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.), referring to questioning the non-compliance with any of the three requirements in article 2 of Law 265290, Organic Law of the Ombudsman. Cross-outs referring to questioning jurisdictional decisions are not admissible. The presentation of cross-outs is done in the format of the Special Commission.
  • From Monday, July 11 to Wednesday, July 13: notification to the crossed-out or denounced applicant by email.
  • Between Thursday July 14 and Saturday July 16:the presentation of the discharge of the crossed-out or denounced applicant.
  • From Monday 11 to Wednesday 13: access of the proposed applicants to the system of the Comptroller General of the Republic and presentation of a sworn statement before this entity.
  • Thursday, July 14: referral by the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic to the Special Commission of the list of applicants for suitable candidates who complied and those who did not comply with filing your affidavit.
  • Between Monday, July 18 and Wednesday, July 20: resolution of objections and complaints by the Special Commission in the sole and final instance.
  • Thursday, July 21: notification of what was resolved.
  • From Wednesday, July 13 to Tuesday, July 26: analysis, preparation and submission of reports by the Comptroller General of the Republic, made to the sworn statements submitted by each suitable candidate.
  • From Wednesday, August 3 to Thursday, August 4: personal interview for each suitable candidate.
  • Friday August 5: session of the Special Commission for the voting of each candidate for suitable candidate.
  • Monday, August 8: presentation of the proposal of the suitable candidate and publication of this on the website of the Special Commission and of Congress.
  • As of Tuesday, August 16: start date of the qualification for the election of the Ombudsman by the plenary session of Congress.
