The superior prosecutor Rafael Vela, coordinator of the special team of the Lava Jato case, reported that a challenge has been filed against the supreme judge César San Martín because he did not inhibit himself in an appeal filed by the former president Ollanta Humala and former First Lady Nadine Heredia.
Speaking to Canal N, he explained that the request against San Martín has been presented by the Public Prosecutor's Office, which was joined by the Supreme Prosecutor's Office in charge of the former prosecutor of the Nation Pablo Sánchez Velarde.
“This appeal must be resolved by the chamber chaired by César San Martín and we are very concerned because the man always recused himself in the cases of Mr. Humala and Mrs. Heredia because he was mentioned in Mrs. Heredia's agendas” , expressed.
“It turns out that now Mr. San Martín has decided not to be more inhibited in the cases of Mr. Humala and Mrs. Heredia. This cassation is transcendental because it analyzes the issues linked in depth to what is the expectation of the trial that is already advanced, it has a direct impact on the Fujimori case. Depending on what is decided, it can also have a projection”, he added.

Vela Barba explained that the appeal refers to the origin of the funds received by both Humala Tasso and the leader of Fuerza Popular, Keiko Fujimori, for her electoral campaigns in 2011 and 2016, respectively.
“It is very likely (that it resolves in favor of Keiko Fujimori) because the reasons that are argued within this cassation are perfectly valid because there are some identities within the cases that are raised”, he asserted.
< p itemprop="description" class="story-contents__font-paragraph">“We are fundamentally concerned because the transparency of Judge San Martín's decision, which always voluntarily disqualified itself, has been broken. Now it did not do it anymore and that has generated a challenge from the Public Prosecutor's Office to which the Supreme Prosecutor's Office led by Dr. Pablo Sánchez Velarde has joined”, he added.
In this sense, Rafael Vela estimated that, if César San Martín decides in favor of this appeal, the cases of former president Ollanta Humala and former presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori could be dropped, since the contributions that both received money from Box 2 of the Department of Structural Operations of the Odebrecht company.
