Older iPhone and iPad models will be deprived of access to an important function

Starting next month, Apple will officially prohibit backing up devices via iCloud on iPhones and iPads running iOS 8 or earlier. This is reported by the MacRumors portal.

The changes will take effect on December 18, 2024. After this date, backups will require iOS 9 or a later version of the system. Apple will also delete all existing iCloud backups on older devices without the ability to restore them.

The official Apple website states that applications and data stored on the iPhone and iPad themselves running iOS 8 and earlier will remain in place. At the same time, if desired, gadget owners can manually create backups on a Mac or Windows PC.

The company explained this step as a desire to meet the current “minimum software requirements”.
