Old Russian anti-aircraft systems are not capable of fighting new Ukrainian drones — BpLA developer's explanation

When striking strategic and military objects on the territory of the Russian Federation, the Ukrainian military chooses priority targets. Not all objects important to the Russian Federation can be protected by Russian air defense. On October 4, the commander of the special unit of strike drones “White Eagle”, UAV developer Valery Borovyk, told about this on the TV channel FREEDOM on October 4.

According to him, the priority — this is the importance of the object for the power of the enemy in terms of launching strikes on Ukraine, from the production or delivery of some energy carriers, and so on.

“Or it's actually the leveling of their energy system, because the strikes on their transformers, on their energy facilities, were a response to the destruction of our energy capabilities, to the fact that we cut off electricity, and at the same time they live in luxury. This must also be done to show that there is an adequate response. Therefore, priority is given to the situation that is currently on the front line. Sometimes the foreign policy component is taken into account, because we need to continue the war, and we have the support of our Western partners. Therefore, it is not the main thing, but still there are targets that need to be shown that we can destroy them regardless of what air defense means there are”, — explained Borovyk.

He does not consider the Russian air defense system completely leaky.

“The Russians mainly focused on their technologies, old technologies. Something was taken there in China, but I don't think that air defense systems — it is the production of other countries, from the components of other countries. In fact, Russia produced and produces its own air defense systems. They often rely on old Soviet technologies. And where, say, the objects are protected by anti-aircraft systems of Soviet production, they ticked the box for themselves: “Okay, let's say we have protection here.” But they are not protection against new drones, which can not just fly straight like a rocket, they can enter from different positions, from different trajectories. That is, they are no longer adapted”, — the BpLA developer explained.
