Offered help “from the state”: man falls for scammers

Scammers took advantage of the appearance of the program «Winter e-Support». On the Internet, attackers offer users to quickly and «in a few steps» receive 1,000 hryvnias — supposedly officially from the state.

This is reported by the Zaporizhzhia police.

A 77-year-old resident of the Kommunarsky district of Zaporizhzhia turned to the police the other day. The man excitedly told that he had received a call from an unknown person who introduced himself as a bank employee. He said that in order to confirm registration for the alleged payment from the state in the amount of 1,000 hryvnias, it was necessary to provide personal data, bank details, as well as — a password sent to a mobile phone. The applicant agreed and did everything according to the «instructions». And soon he discovered that more than 8,000 hryvnias had disappeared from his bank card.

Fraud under the guise of social assistance supposedly from the state, charitable foundations or international organizations has long become «traditional» and, unfortunately, an effective method of deception. Carelessness and inattention — two main allies of scammers, due to which the residents of the region regularly suffer considerable losses.
