Not far from the Russian border, NATO troops began to “carry out their tasks”

On November 4, NATO's largest artillery military exercise, Lightning Strike 24, began in Finland. It is part of a series of exercises by the Alliance's member countries in Europe, Radio Liberty reports.

As is known, the exercises in Finland are being led by the United States and are part of a series of exercises called Dynamic Front 25, which are being held in five European countries – Finland, Estonia, Germany, Romania and Poland.

In Finland, about 3,600 troops will be involved in the exercises, which will last until November 28 in the Rovajärvi and Rovaniemi areas in Finnish Lapland, including about 1,250 international military forces that will arrive in the region.

It is noted that the purpose of the exercises is to demonstrate the Alliance's defense capabilities in the Northern European region, as well as practice operational command, control and cooperation with the NATO Joint Rapid Response Corps.

"The scale of the exercises shows that in “if necessary, we can get support from the allies very quickly, as well as from the Allied Command. This is a good example of how our own field artillery, combined with the capabilities of the allies, forms a strong defense in northern Finland and NATO,” said exercise director Colonel Janne Mäkitalo.

A total of about five thousand troops from 28 countries will take part in the NATO Dynamic Front 25 exercise.
