Norway is considering the possibility of building a fence on the border with the Russian Federation. It should help if a lot of refugees are sent from the territory of the Russian Federation.

The Norwegian state broadcaster NRK reports that a fence on the border with Russia could help in the event of a refugee invasion.

For example, this happened in 2015, when about 5 thousand people who asked for asylum arrived on foot and by bicycle through Storskog, the only point between Norway and Russia.

Last year, migrants from third countries sought to enter the territory of Finland. There, they admitted that instrumentalized migration was allegedly taking place, as a result of which the Finnish authorities decided to build a fence on the border 200 km long.

According to the publication, the Minister of Justice of Norway Emilie Enger Mehl cited the example of Finland, which continues to build fences on the eastern border. In her opinion, the construction of the fence could improve the security situation.

As journalists noted, it is still unknown how exactly the fence will be built – along the entire border or only on a separate section. In total, the length of the land corridor between Norway and Russia is 200 km.

According to the minister, the construction of the fence is expensive, so it is necessary to assess the need for such investments. In her opinion, it is possible to invest in increasing the number of border guards and purchasing drones that will monitor the situation on the border.
