The pandemic has greatly upset the Gala Les Olivier, which will be held on March 21. In addition to adding a special “COVID artist of the year” category, the comedy gala had to drop the prestigious author, show and best seller of the year categories.
It is via a Facebook video that the host of the gala, François Bellefeuille, announced Monday noon the categories for this gala which will have a particular connotation.
In all, ten trophies will be awarded on March 21. Eligible creations were for the period July 1, 2019 to September 30, 2020.
Because it was “impossible to determine a winner”, the Association of Professionals in the Comedy Industry (APIH) made the decision not to determine any winners in three top categories (author, show, best seller) thus depriving the shows of Rosalie Vaillancourt, Rachid Badouri, Sam Breton, Simon Gouache and Korine Côté, to name a few, of being rewarded.
Another notable absentee: Julien Lacroix, targeted by allegations of sexual misconduct, and whose first show, So far, so good, was eligible for nominations.
Rosalie Vaillancourt will not be outdone with this revamped gala since she is named in the new special category “COVID artist of the year”. A category that was set up “to highlight the work and initiatives of comedians during the confinement of last year”.
During last year’s confinement, Rosalie notably launched a new web series, Rosalie – The Musical, in addition to taking part in some shows with Katherine Levac, for Moé and the other.
As “COVID artist of the year”, Rosalie will find herself alongside François Bellefeuille, Mathieu Dufour, Alexandre L’Heureux and Arnaud Soly.
The popular category of Olive Tree of the Year will include ten artists this year: Rachid Badouri, Mehdi Bousaidan, Sam Breton, Pierre Hébert, Mariana Mazza, François Morency, Dominic Paquet, Phil Roy, Arnaud Soly and Rosalie Vaillancourt. The winner of this category, usually determined by popular vote, will exceptionally be chosen by a specialized jury and by the academy made up of members of the APIH.
Finally, on the side of the discovery of the year, the competition will be very fierce between Simon Delisle, Mathieu Dufour, Christine Morency, Pierre-Yves Roy-Desmarais and Arnaud Soly.
The 22nd Gala Les Olivier will be broadcast on March 21, at 8 p.m., on ICI Télé.
