"No actor refused": the return of Plus belle la vie is confirmed, new details on the sequel

By Quentin Piton Journalist Series – Cinema Journalist specializing in series, cinema, but also anime and manga. Spends his time dreaming of Emma Watson, considers Olivier Giroud the GOAT and refuses to speak with those who are against the absolute truth which is: How I Met Your Mother is a better series than Friends. What if Plus belle la vie made its big comeback on our screens in 2023? While France 3 broadcast the last episode of the daily series on November 18, 2022, actors and technicians continue to fight behind the scenes to resuscitate it elsewhere. And obviously, the project would be so well launched that we could already start dreaming of a sequel!

On November 18, 2022, France 3 broadcast the last episode of Plus belle la vieat the end of eighteen years of adventures as crazy as they are exciting in the Mistral district. The last ? Really ? Maybe not. Where France Télévision has officially turned the page on this emblematic daily series, the team that brought it to life for more than six thousand episodes is far from being in the same state of mind.

We recently learned that a group of nearly three hundred people, made up of as many technicians as actors, was created to save PBLVand bring it back to life elsewhere and otherwise. A project as ambitious as it is astonishing – after all, the finale broadcast on television had made it possible to complete many intrigues, which would be about to materialize.

A return online for More beautiful life?

In the course of an interview granted to Actu Marseille, Florence Demay (actress on the series and now spokesperson for the collective) indeed confessed that the rescue of the Mistral was on the right track. If nothing seems signed and validated for the moment, she is on the other hand the first to speak in the future and not in the conditional vis-à-vis this project.

It won't be a web series strictly speaking. We want to go further than that. The series will be broadcast on a dedicated platform, like Netflix, which can be watched from an application, on a computer, tablet or connected TV, she initially explained when describing the idea behind this return. We will keep the same weekly broadcast rate. Every day, as before, with a 20-minute format, as before. On the other hand, thanks to this platform, spectators will no longer be confined to a box in the evening. They will be able to watch the episodes in replay and whenever they want.”

A reassuring revelation, especially since few actors would not want to participate to this revival.”So far, it looks like most of the characters will be there. In any case, no actor refused to participate, assured Florence Demay, before recalling that a rotation should be imagined again in order to leave room for everyone. We plan to do several arcs, there will be questions to ask about it. There are choices to be made in terms of writing.

A well-advanced project, but…

However, beware of the fire, two big question marks still hang over the project. The first ? Access to episodes. Where Plus belle la vie was broadcast for free on France 3, nothing says that the sequel will also be easy to access, the fault of another way of producing it: “ For the moment, we are trying to make the series free, knowing that it is a very difficult method of financing.”

The second? If everything seems to be going in the right direction for this return, nothing is officially recorded. Florence Demay reminded us that the collective is not yet “sure of having the rights” and therefore continues to fight behind the scenes with Newen for this. Nevertheless, the spokesperson believes in it so much that she already has a small dream schedule in mind: “It will take us 18 weeks to broadcast the first episode. That corresponds to the time of writing, production and line“.
