In the northwest of British Columbia, Nisga'a First Nation partners with Texas company Western LNG to purchase natural gas project.

The pipeline construction project is to feed the future floating liquefied natural gas export terminal – the Ksi Lisims LNG megaproject – proposed by the nation and its partners on the northeastern tip of Pearse Island, near the Alaska border.

The Nisga'a Nation and its American business partner said Thursday they will acquire the Prince Rupert Gas project Transfer of the TC Énergie company, established in Calgary.

This is a historic day for our nation,” said Eva Clayton, President of the Nisga'a First Nation.

By holding such an equal role in this project, we are sending the signal of a new era in Indigenous participation in the Canadian economy.

Construction of the Ksi Lisims LNG terminal is scheduled to begin in 2024.

The Prince Rupert Gas Transmission project, launched in 2013, aims to build a 900 km long gas pipeline between Hudson's Hope, in the northeast of the province, and Lelu Island, near Port Edward, south of Prince Rupert.

The pipeline will require a certificate amendment as a route change will be required to transport natural gas to Pearse Island.

It was initially intended to power the facilities of the Pacific NorthWest LNG project, abandoned in 2017.

This acquisition will help breathe new life into the Prince Rupert Gas Transmission project, said Davis Thames, President and CEO of Western LNG.

Nisga First Nation&# x27;a and Texas company Western LNG also hope to soon reach an agreement with a construction manager. They intend to recruit companies that have worked on projects such as Coastal GasLink (New window) or the expansion of the Trans Mountain pipeline.
