In this game, won 22-17 by the Chiefs, the star pivot was forced to leave the game in the third quarter. Wilson, a defensive lineman, tackled Mahomes on a third try, but with his arm wrapped around the quarterback’s helmet.
Mahomes’ head then made hard contact with the ground and he needed help leaving the grassy area.
Wilson said he received a lot of threats on social media following the sack. On Twitter, he said he prayed that Mahomes would be able to play the American Association final. His opponent accepted his apology by saying that “everything was fine my brother”.
The wish of both players has been granted as the Chiefs confirmed Friday that Mahomes could regain his place in the pocket against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
