The Gros-Cacouna seaport wishes to build a new storage area to accommodate various wind turbine components.

This space will be located in the eastern sector of the port, very close to lands belonging to the Wolastoqiyik Wahsipekuk nation.

According to the President and CEO of the Société portuaire du Bas-Saint-Laurent et de la Gaspésie, Anne Dupéré, this space will be accessible next fall. The other storage areas of the port are already reserved by different companies.

Anne Dupéré emphasizes that the storage area of approximately 50,000 m2 will be temporary. This sector could be used by the Société des traversiers du Québec if the government decides to move the ferry service to the seaport of Gros-Cacouna.

Some wind farms are due for delivery at the end of 2026, so we have the time to support the wind industry.

For his part, the president of the Energy Alliance x27;East, Michel Lagacé, welcomes this decision. The objective is to be able to store them within a close radius of future wind farms to minimize the transport distances to be covered.

According to him, the seaport of Cacouna could become a hub for the storage of wind turbine components for future parks in Eastern Quebec.
