The government of Quebec will submit a new salary offer at 3 p.m. to the Front commun and at 3:15 p.m. to the other unions (FAE, FIQ, SFPQ, SPGQ).

Questioned in a press scrum in the corridors of the National Assembly, the president of the Treasury Board Sonia LeBel did not want to confirm the news. If there are offers to place, I will do it at the tables, she said.

In English, she nevertheless added that she was awaiting official feedback from the two teaching unions on the latest government proposals.

Earlier this week, the government submitted new offers to teachers affiliated with the Autonomous Federation of Education (FAE) and the Federation of Education Unions (FSE). This latter union organization is part of the Common Front.

These exploratory proposals were described this morning as “far, far, far from being up to par”, by Josée Scalabrini, president of the FSE. We will see in particular if the union position changes following the new offers which will be made this afternoon.

The FAE entered into an indefinite general strike on November 23, while the Common Front has planned additional strike days from December 8 to 14.

Some 368,000 students from around 800 schools are notably deprived of education in the four corners of Quebec.

When submitting its previous general salary offer, at the end of October, the government affirmed that this corresponded to a salary increase of up to 14.8% over 5 years.

The unions quickly rejected the government offer, calling it “derisory”.
