New iPads in 2025 may be equipped with an Apple-developed Wi-Fi chip

According to a report by the Taiwanese publication DigiTimes, Apple may introduce its own Wi-Fi chip in its devices as early as next year.

Insiders from the company's supply chain indicated that some new iPad models to be introduced in 2025 could be equipped with this chip. However, there is a possibility that the development will be delayed until the release of the iPhone 18 in 2026. Apple's plans to create its own Wi-Fi chip have been known as far back as 2021, suggesting a long development process.

It is not yet clear what benefits this chip could bring to consumers. However, its implementation will allow Apple to reduce its dependence on supplier Broadcom, which is part of the company's strategy to develop its own components.

All four iPhone 16 models already support Wi-Fi 7, which provides four times the speed compared to Wi- Fi 6E, although it requires a router with Wi-Fi 7 support.

Apple is also rumored to introduce its first devices with its own 5G chip next year, including the new iPhone SE and iPhone 17 models Air. This will allow the company to abandon the services of the current supplier of 5G chips – Qualcomm.
