The Dutch authorities have announced the resumption of border controls, citing the fight against illegal migration and crime. The measure will be introduced from December 9 for six months. This was announced by the Minister for Migration, Marejjn Faber.
EU laws allow member states to temporarily introduce border controls, but only in cases of emergency or unforeseen situations.
Checks will be carried out at airports on those flights that most often bring illegal migrants or people smugglers into the country.
According to the minister, measures to check people entering the Netherlands will be implemented in such a way “as to have less impact on economic and passenger traffic.” At the same time, the Dutch authorities have declared their readiness to share information with the relevant departments of neighboring Belgium and Germany.

In September, similar measures were introduced in Germany, also for a period of six months and with the aim of combating illegal migration. Since September 16, all those entering Germany from neighboring countries have been checked. At the moment, according to the German authorities, the measures taken are having a positive effect.
Following Germany's example, France began checks at the border with Belgium, Spain, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Germany and Italy on November 1. France, which also introduced these measures for six months, explains them by the increased terrorist threat and the growth of illegal migration.
