Netherlands, risk of flooding in Maastricht: evacuation for 10 thousand people

The southern Dutch city of Maastricht has asked 10,000 people to leave their homes due to the risk of flooding. Several districts of this city in the province of Limburg will have to be evacuated, the municipality said in the evening, explaining that the Meuse will come out of its levees tonight and flood several residential areas.

The city of Roermond has also started the evacuation of some neighborhoods, where hundreds of people live. River levels have risen rapidly due to the arrival of large bodies of water from Belgium and Germany, where floods have caused dozens of deaths. The Dutch army was mobilized with hundreds of men. The king and queen visited some flooded areas in the evening, talking with mayors and citizens.
