Netflix announces increase in subscription prices

Netflix is raising subscription prices in several countries to invest in new content and services, reports The Verge. We've picked the main ones.

What happened

Netflix has raised subscription prices in four countries — the United States, Canada, Portugal and Argentina. The company announced that the new rates will take effect after the next payment.

Netflix explains this by the fact that the company wants to create more interesting films and series and improve the quality of services.

Here's how much you'll have to pay now:

  • The tariff with advertising will cost $7.99 frominstead of $6.99 per month.
  • The standard without advertising will increase to $17.99 $15.49.
  • The premium rate will increase from $22.99 to $24.99.

In addition, the company introduced a new Extra Member with Ads rate. It allows’to connect an additional user to the rate with advertising for $7.99 per month. Despite the increase in cost, the company achieved record figures — Netflix added 19 million new subscribers in the last quarter of 2024, the largest increase in the service's history.

Netflix's total number of subscribers now stands at 300 million. However, the company will no longer publish quarterly subscriber growth figures. Starting in early 2025, Netflix will only report on significant milestones when its subscriber base reaches new levels.
